Are you a Hula-Hula Baby? Hula Hula Baby Song

When our family's youngest cousin, Beverley, turned 50 I cried. I have never forgotten her at about 3 years old and her dance recital performance of "Hula Baby." In my effort to locate the Hula Hula Baby song to play it for her on that now passed 50th birthday I was surprised to find many other 'Hula Babies' were ALSO searching for that old Hula Baby Song on a 45 vinyl (or certainly it would now be in cd form)!

I spent many hours researching online and asking local dance instructors here in CA to no avail. I began to think 'Hula Baby' must have been a Midwest traditional dance recital song.

Online searching DID return the Downs Girls Blogspot is where I discovered the other Hula Babies looking for and requesting further information to obtain the musical version of the song. The Downs Girls Blogspot pointed to another web site containing lyrics in another blog article written by Gerianne Wright. I have included both of those links as referenced below.

On a quest, I contacted my cousin's dance instructor from years ago, Nian Cadman, now located in Arizona and STILL dancing and teaching dance. She thought she saw dance recital videos on YouTube and suggested I first try searching there. I had done that previously but gave up simply because so much of what returned were clips of Elvis's "Rock-a-Hula Baby" Today I tried again and rephrased my search as "Hula Baby Dance Recital" whereby I happily found a few so I copied the links below.

ADORABLE! If you have the time to watch each of the links, not only will you hear the song but also chuckle while watching the Hula Babies of more recent times bring back your Hula Baby Days memories!

You can hardly read the lyrics and movements below without wanting to stand up, dance, and sing the song.

"Hula-Hula Baby"

“I’m a little hula-hula baby, from the land of Waikiki;
I can hula and I don’t mean maybe, come with me across the sea;
I dance with my eyes, I dance with my lips, I dance with my hands, and I wriggle my hips;
I’m a little hula-hula baby, from the land of Waikiki.

One-two-three-four-five-six-seven-eight (turn).
